Takamine GD20CE-NS Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar
The Takamine GD20CE-NS is a dreadnought-style acoustic-electric guitar pairing a solid cedar top with mahogany back and sides for a warm, detailed tone across many musical styles. The slim satin-finish mahogany neck and 12"-radius ovangkol fingerboard give it a comfortable modern feel, while the Venetian cutaway opens up easy access to the upper frets. Onboard TP-4TD electronics with a built-in tuner, three-band EQ, and gain controls make this instrument stage-ready straight from the case.
What Sets This Dreadnought Apart
Most guitars in this price band ship with a spruce top — this model uses solid cedar instead, giving the unplugged voice a warmer, more rounded character from the first strum. The satin finish absorbs some of the brighter high-end frequencies, contributing to the mellow, woody tone reviewers consistently describe. Designed with the proprietary TP-4TD preamp, this instrument is purpose-built for players who plug in as often as they play acoustically.
Tonewoods That Shape the Voice
The wood combination is the heart of this dreadnought's character.
- Solid cedar top provides a quick response and warm fundamental, making it ideal for fingerstyle playing.
- Back & Sides: Mahogany — midrange focus and a dry, woody character
- Natural Satin finish — thinner coating lets the top vibrate more freely
- Body Shape: Dreadnought — large body delivers strong low end and high volume
A Neck Built for Long Playing Sessions
The mahogany neck has a slim profile and a satin finish that feels fast under the hand.
- Neck Material: Mahogany — slim, satin-finished profile for comfortable grip
- Fingerboard: Ovangkol — 12" (305 mm) radius balances easy chording with bending
- Nut Width: 42.8 mm — comfortable width for most adult hands
- Synthetic bone nut and split bridge saddle — accurate intonation adjustment
Stage-Ready Electronics and Reliable Hardware
The TP-4TD preamp is one of Takamine's long-running electronics systems, designed for accurate acoustic reproduction through a PA or acoustic amp.
- Preamp: Takamine TP-4TD — built-in tuner, three-band EQ, and gain control
- Pickup: Under-saddle piezo — captures string vibration directly
- Chrome die-cast tuners — stable tuning across temperature changes
- Inlays: Pearloid dot — clean fret markers matching the satin aesthetic
Ideal for Gigging Singer-Songwriters and Intermediate Players
This model is the right choice for singer-songwriters and intermediate players who need a reliable, warm-sounding acoustic-electric guitar for both home practice and live performance. The dreadnought body projects well in solo settings, while the cutaway makes it easy to reach the higher frets for melodic lead lines. Players who want a stage-ready guitar without buying a separate acoustic amp will appreciate the TP-4TD preamp's straightforward EQ and built-in tuner.
Takamine's Five-Decade Focus on Electro-Acoustic Guitars
