It’s OK, especially because in addition to samples and ACB synth engine (virtual analog emulations of Analog Roland synths and drum machines) there is an FM synth engine for FM drums, so you can get some unique drum sounds. But there are missing some really important features. For example there is no internal side chain effect. You can get side chain effect from external gear, but not if you are using only TR-8s and apply side chain to kick and bass, or kick and pads. It’s one of the most important feature for modern music production, especially for electronic music. Besides that, there is no pitch envelope for synth drum sounds (ACB virtual analog and FM drums). So as often happens with Roland gear it’s good, but there is missing something (often fundamental features) , what would make it great. Otherwise it arrived few days ago, so I didn’t use it so much to write more detailed review. But the most important is that TR-8s sounds excellent! So if you need a drum machine where you get all legendary Roland drum machines in one and drum machine that is not based only on samples or only on synthesis, TR-8s is for you, because it has 2 synth engines (virtual analog ACB and FM) and in addition to that sample based drums. If you need that kind of drum machine, go get it. :))
